KiCad 9.0.0

Open-source software for electronic circuit design.

Description

KiCad is an open-source software for electronic circuit design. It allows creating schematics, developing printed circuit board (PCB) layouts, and generating production files, such as Gerber, necessary for manufacturing. The program offers advanced tools for professional design, including support for multiple PCB layers, manual and automatic routing, as well as circuit simulation via SPICE.

It is a widely used software among engineers, students, and hobbyists due to its flexibility and the fact that it is free. KiCad also has an extensive library of components and the ability to create custom libraries, facilitating custom and complex projects.

KiCad offers various features that make it a complete tool for electronic circuit design. Among the main ones are:

1. Creation of schematics

  • Tools for intuitively drawing electrical diagrams.
  • Extensive library of components, including resistors, capacitors, integrated circuits, and connectors.
  • Option to create and manage custom libraries.

2. PCB Design

  • Support for multiple layers, including high-density boards.
  • Manual and semi-automatic routing with tools for trace control.
  • Design rule checks (DRC) to identify errors before production.
  • 3D visualization of the PCB, allowing verification of the physical design.

3. Circuit Simulation

  • Integration with SPICE simulators for circuit analysis.
  • Allows simulating electrical behavior before manufacturing.

4. Production File Generation

  • Export of Gerber files, used for PCB manufacturing.
  • Support for generating bill of materials (BOM) and files for assembly machines.

5. Advanced Support

  • Management of large projects with support for schematic hierarchies.
  • Tools for high-frequency design, such as impedance control and spacing.
