That's exactly what this modification does, it creates a new game option, the multiplayer mode. Everything you can do offline, you can do online. Except it's much more fun, of course!
In this mode that doesn't exist in the standard version, it is possible to play with up to 1000 players at the same time. In addition, it is also possible to play via LAN, which is not so common nowadays with the great advance of the internet.
