Description
WACUP (WinAmp Community Update Project) is an independent project developed by a community of enthusiasts with the goal of revitalizing and enhancing the classic media player Winamp. Based on version 5.666 of Winamp (the last stable version released by Nullsoft before its official abandonment), WACUP seeks to fix bugs, update existing functionalities, and introduce new features, with the ultimate goal of becoming a standalone media player that is highly compatible with the original Winamp ecosystem.
Main Features:
- Fixes and Updates: WACUP includes security patches and bug fixes that were not addressed in the official versions of Winamp, ensuring greater stability and compatibility with modern operating systems, such as Windows 7 and above.
- New Features: Adds functionalities missing in the original Winamp, such as enhanced support for audio formats (e.g., AHX and HVL via the HivelyTracker plug-in), playlist export, and advanced customization options.
- Plug-in System: Maintains and expands Winamp's plug-in system, allowing users to add or replace functionalities with new or optimized plug-ins. This includes support for modern skins (such as Big Bento and cPro) and visualization plug-ins like Milkdrop.
- Portable Mode: Offers options for portable or traditional installation, allowing flexibility without interfering with existing Winamp installations.
- Continuous Development: The project is regularly updated with beta versions (restricted to testers) and public previews, such as version 1.99.27.21102 released on March 6, 2025, which brought improvements like an alternative SSL backend and adjustments to the interface.
