NetSpeedTray 2.1.2

Software for Windows that monitors network speed in real time.

Description

NetSpeedTray is an open-source program for Windows aimed at continuous monitoring of network activity in real-time, displaying information directly in the system taskbar. The focus is on providing clear data on upload and download traffic without requiring open windows or constant interaction, keeping the monitoring visible while you use other applications.

The software shows real-time transfer rates, typically expressed in KB/s or MB/s, constantly updated as data flows through the active connection. This information remains integrated into the taskbar, allowing you to quickly check network consumption during downloads, uploads, online gaming, streaming, or background syncing.

NetSpeedTray features automatic detection of Windows light and dark themes. The displayed text adjusts dynamically to the system’s visual settings, ensuring good readability regardless of the active theme, without the need for manual adjustments whenever the Windows display mode is changed.

The Dynamic Update Rate feature intelligently manages the frequency of data updates. When there is no significant network traffic, the program automatically reduces the number of readings and updates, which decreases CPU usage and contributes to lower power consumption, especially relevant on laptops. As soon as network activity resumes, updates occur at shorter intervals.

The selection of the network interface can be done automatically or manually. In automatic mode, the program identifies which connection is actively being used by the system at the moment, such as Ethernet or Wi-Fi. In manual mode, you can choose to monitor all available interfaces or only specific ones, an important feature on computers with multiple active network connections.

The visual behavior of NetSpeedTray also adapts to the system's usage context. When the Windows taskbar is set to auto-hide, the speed indicator follows this behavior. In situations with full-screen applications, such as games or presentations, the program hides itself to avoid distractions or information overlap.

Being an open-source project, the internal workings of NetSpeedTray can be audited, studied, and modified by those with technical knowledge, promoting transparency and continuous evolution of the software. The aim is to provide permanent, discreet network monitoring with minimal impact on the overall system performance, catering to those who need to track connection usage in a practical and straightforward manner.
