Software that combines a dictionary and thesaurus of the English language, offering a consultation tool that is much more comprehensive than a simple traditional dictionary.

Description

TheSage is software that combines a dictionary and thesaurus of the English language, offering a much more complete reference tool than a simple traditional dictionary. It functions as an advanced lexical system, allowing users to explore words, their meanings, relationships, and uses in detail.

The program contains about 255,000 main entries and more than 340,000 senses (definitions), as well as approximately 120,000 etymologies, 115,000 usage examples, and 240,000 phonetic transcriptions. Its thesaurus records over 2 million relationships between words, including synonyms, antonyms, hyponyms, meronyms, and holonyms.

TheSage allows users to consult definitions, pronunciations, etymologies, and usage examples, as well as explore complex relationships between words. It offers advanced search tools, such as wildcard search, anagrams, phonetics, rhymes, and reverse search in definitions or examples, making it easy to find exactly what one is looking for even in complex situations.

Integration with other programs is a highlight: it is possible to access TheSage from virtually any application on Windows, without needing to open the main interface. The entire database is stored locally, allowing the software to work completely offline.

The program offers three view modes: “e-paper,” which simulates a printed dictionary; “classic,” with a tree structure of entries and definitions; and “retro,” an older aesthetic for those who prefer a different visual style. Additionally, it supports tabs, allowing multiple searches to be open at the same time.

TheSage is recommended for advanced students, translators, linguists, and anyone needing a detailed lexical reference tool. The basic version is free for personal use, while the professional version includes additional functionalities and supports automatic updates for commercial use. The interface may be dense for beginners, but the range and depth of information make the software a powerful tool for linguistic studies and research.
